The ETH Library promotes knowledge, supports research and teaching and, as a credible institution, makes the world of yesterday, today and tomorrow more comprehensible for you. The Research Analytics Service group, hosted by the section Research Support Services and Acquisitions, is hiring a Data Scientist with Software Engineering and AI Expertise. The position is to be filled on 1 November 2025.
As a member of the Research Analytics Services group, you will conduct and provide scientometric analyses and consulting to the researchers, departments, controlling, and the executive board of ETH Zurich. You will also take an active role in the implementation of diverse projects in the field of scientometrics.
In this role, you will help design and develop bibliometric services and play an active part in the planning and optimization of new workflows. Close collaboration with other units of the ETH Zurich—particularly the Institutional Research team—will be essential for your success.
Beyond your core tasks, you will be encouraged to contribute to the development and practical application of innovative approaches, for example in the area of open data. In addition, you will be responsible for conducting in-depth technical analyses of files and formats ingested into the ETH Data Archive, providing risk assessments and actionable recommendations.
You hold a Master’s degree – ideally in data science, computer science, or social sciences; a PhD/doctorate in one of these fields is an advantage. You have solid skills in Python and R, and you write code that is clear, reproducible, and well-structured. You bring at least a basic understanding of SQL and/or NoSQL databases and are motivated to deepen this knowledge. You possess expertise in software or data engineering and show a strong interest in artificial intelligence. You have experience with, or are eager to learn more about, research assessment methods. You demonstrate a keen interest in the Swiss research landscape, scholarly communication, dissemination of scientific output, and methods of research evaluation. You work in a systematic and detail-oriented manner, with strong analytical thinking skills. You are able to communicate results clearly and effectively, both in writing and in spoken interactions. You are fluent in English and German, in both written and spoken form.
Your job with impact: Become part of ETH Zurich, which not only supports your professional development, but also actively contributes to positive change in society. You can expect numerous benefits, such as public transport season tickets and car sharing, a wide range of sports offered by the ASVZ, childcare and attractive pension benefits.
